Do you want to know which laptop to buy?

Take a look at our favorites from the top 3 brands or check out our best laptops for 2014 to find the laptop that provides you the features you need.

Our comparison guide and the reviews on this site will help you find which of the many laptop brands are the best laptop brands for you.  We will help you find and purchase your new laptop.

For our comparison we looked at several areas:

  • Technical Support
  • Look and Feel
  • Selection
  • Editor Rating
  • Amazon Rating

Technical Support

If something goes wrong or if you have a question, you want to be able to get quality customer service and assistance.  We also looked at the knowledgebase and self assistance tools available on the company website.  Extra points were given for the ease at which the customer can find live chat, technical support phone numbers, and email capability.

Those companies which had these tools, along with quality responses and good response times, scored higher. The support you will receive after your purchase is a key contributor to determining the best laptop brands.

Look and Feel

Regardless of the performance of the laptop we all want something that looks good.  This includes the screen display on the laptop which is always an important component to a quality laptop.  Also some laptops weigh more than others so if this matters to you, pay attention to the specification of the laptop you are buying.

We lean towards lighter weight laptops just because of how we use them.  If your place your laptop on a desk and use it more as a desktop PC than the weight is not as much of a factor.  The innovation with convertible laptops is also something we look at when analyzing look/feel.

Selection

Some brands offer more options than others.  Whether you are looking for a budget system or a high end gaming laptop you need to know which brands have which options.  Some brands work very hard to have offerings in all types of consumer price points and packages.  Selection is important but knowing what you want ahead of time will eliminate many systems from the start.

Editor Rating

In addition to the already mentioned criteria we also took into account price, value, company innovation, and software.  More information is provided on the detailed reviews for each brand.  The Editor Rating indicates the results of our review of the best laptop brands.

Amazon Rating

We took the average Amazon customer rating of the top 5 laptops for each brand.  It’s a good representation of how customers feel about these brands and the most popular models.  Regardless of what experts say we feel strongly about consumer reviews for the products we purchase.  By looking at the Amazon Rating it helps us understand what the customers think the best brands are.

The Results

The comparison chart results are based on a wide range of sources, test cases, and experiences.  There are very similar numbers across the 9 laptop brands highlighted here at Laptop Brands Guide.  This should give you some level of confidence that you can find good qualities and solid value laptops across all 9 brands.

One piece of data I feel must be shared here is when gathering the results and pulling together this information I actually had more than 9 brands I was monitoring and will continue to watch.  The reason the data has not been shared here is because of the gap between the brands at the bottom of my list and the next brands in line.

While there are still value laptops which you shouldn’t automatically eliminate from your list of options, they weren’t included in the results of this study.  Make no mistake I will continue to keep my eye on companies like Vizio and MSI and at some point they may appear on this list.  You may even see some of these laptops reviewed on this site in the future.

Top Laptop From Top 3

As our comparison chart reveals, our Editor’s top 3 best laptop brands are Apple, Lenovo, and Asus.  All 3 brands have pros and cons associated to their line of laptop products but they push to the top of our brand reviews due to their innovation, tech support, and overall production offering.  Below is one of our favorite laptops for 2014 for each of the best laptop brands.

Apple MacBook Pro MGX72LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop with Retina Display

Apple MacBook Pro 13Pros:

– The Retina display is fantastic.  Crisp and clear views make it a great laptop for multimedia, photo, or video editing.

– Powerful.  With a 2.6 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5 Processor plus Turbo Boost this machine really takes care of business.

– Only 11 second start up time.  Blazing fast.

– Battery life is above average.

Cons:

– Not easily upgradeable so don’t anticipate adding RAM or other components.

– No disk drive but can be purchased separately and used externally

As you might expect from Apple the MacBook Pro with Retina Display is a sleek, well built, seemingly flawless machine. With it’s price tag you would expect high quality but as the saying goes you get what you pay for. The MacBook Pro comes in both a 13 Inch and 15 Inch models. You will find similar features and be happy with both machines but we felt the 13-Inch model gives an option to those users looking to get a Mac without breaking the bank. You could also consider the lighter, more inexpensive, less powerful, MacBook Air as an alternative as well. Regardless we like what Apple is doing with their line of laptops and you will be happy with the results as well.

Lenovo Flex 2 14-Inch Touchscreen Laptop

lenovo flex 2Pros:

– Brushed aluminum design makes for a beautiful and well built machine.

– Above average battery life

– Great audio output for a laptop with Dolby Advanced Audio

– Very sturdy in both laptop and stand mode

Cons:

– Attracts fingerprints rather easily which is common with the brushed aluminum.  Just like your car, if you take care of it with an occasional cleaning you will be able to keep it looking very sharp.

– Doesn’t rotate completely into Tablet mode.  If that is what you are looking for then look at the Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro.

With a unique 300 degree folding design the Lenovo Flex 2 is a popular multi-function machine at a great affordable price. With the rotation of the Flex 2 you can place the laptop in either laptop mode or stand mode, providing a unique and easy method for utilizing the touch screen. With many touch screen laptops it feels awkward or uncomfortable to reach across the keyboard to use the touchscreen. With the Flex 2 in stand mode, this issue is eliminated. Plus you won’t sacrafice the sturdiness and durability that Lenovo has long been known for. With an Intel Core i5 1.7 GHz processor and a 128 GB SSD, this laptop is plenty powerful and fast to accomplish all the tasks you need to.

The 10.1 inch ASUS Transformer Book T100 combines an attractive screen with a responsive keyboard dock. Weighing in at only 1.2 pounds the T100 is one of the lightest on the market. With the well built keyboard dock attached the weight increases to only 2.4 pounds. This is a great machine for a student or someone who travels or needs a laptop on the go. The other quality this laptop has over others in its class is the T100 is running the full 8.1 version of Windows.
